Jamie's 2010 Father's Day Story

Father's Day is never one of my favorite days to celebrate, since my dad has been gone over 13 years. I can recall every Father's Day with dad when we celebrated in a big way. We always cooked out, ate tons of delicious food and, of course, reminded him of how much he meant to each of us.

Father's Day, 2010, was different however.

A young man, Steve Lax,  emailed me his story of sharing an Original Jimmy's Jawbreaker with his dad as a youngster, but now that his father had recently passed away, he was feeling very low. Much to my surprise his wife, Jen, telephoned me the next day with a special request for him. She asked if I would ship directly to their home in Omaha Nebraska - 4 meat patties, 2 buns, some OJJ sauce, and even two frill toothpicks to hold the sandwich together. No problem! 

It was shipped the next day, packed in dry ice, with specific instructions to be sure to grill the bun. She prepared them as a huge surprise for him on this Father's Day and that made his Father's Day. What a great compliment to the sandwich my father created and that Lancaster made famous. That made my Father's Day complete too!
